On the 25th March, Oak Class participated in the Lambeth Singing Festival, performing with 600 other KS1 students!
We had so much fun showcasing our music learning and we were so lucky to be standing right at the front of such an iconic stage!
Mystery Creature
Over the weekend, Oak Class had a mysterious visitor...
We arrived to school on Monday to find mysterious footprints all over our classroom! We investigated and made predictions about the creature. Then we discovered clues - a letter and the book, 'Wolves'. How exciting! We will now be focusing on wolves in our writing for the rest of this term.
Shrove Day or Pancake Day
In our RE lesson, we prepared ourselves for our upcoming learning in Christianity— The Easter Story—by celebrating Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Day!
We learnt about the significance of this day for Christians as well as Ash Wednesday.
We learnt that Christians give up things for Lent ahead of Easter and this traditionally was food such as eggs, flour and milk. To celebrate this learning, we had fun tasting pancakes and we even learnt how to make our own pancake batter!
Science Day Workshop
On Tuesday 25th Feb St Mark’s had a visiting Scientist who gave an amazing workshop.
She showed us some amazing experiments—such as how to use heat to shrink and change objects, how to test the ’strength’ of air and more! We were introduced to making sensible, scientific predictions when carrying out different scientific experiments. We loved watching the magic of Science today!
Super Hero Day
On Thursday, Oak Class celebrated Superhero Day!
For our class pebble treat, we dressed up as all kinds of heroes - from Spiderman and Thor to Lillian Bader and Mary Seacole!
We also celebrated ourselves as heroes by finishing off our incredible self-portraits and making our own superhero masks.
Some of the children built superhero cities and superhero houses out of lego. We all had a wonderful day!
Fire Brigade Workshop
Great Fire of London - Workshop
The children in Year 2 have been learning about the Great Fire of London this term. To celebrate their learning, actors came to visit our school to hold a workshop about this historical event. The children had an amazing time re-enacting the events of the fire, creating freeze frames, acting out and even performing a dance routine to show what the Great Fire might have looked like! This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to demonstrate their knowledge and it also gave them a deeper understanding of this key historical event.
Year 2 have also been writing in role as Samuel Pepys as part of the Great Fire of London topic. They have loved getting into character and thinking about Samuel Pepys' perspective. The children first created tea-stained paper before publishing their diary entries using handwriting pen. Together we have created a lovely and engaging classroom display!
Mystery friends
In the summer term, the last Year 2 class (the current Year 3 class) wrote anonymous letters to someone who would be starting in Year 2 to help them to feel brave and to give them some advice. This week, the Year 2s opened their letters! Year 3 were very excited to reveal themselves to their mystery friends from Year 2. After they read their letters and reflected on their first week back at school, each pair had fun partner reading and showing their partner around their new classrooms!
